As the seasons change, so does the way you use your plumbing. Summer is underway, and so are the parties and weekend fun in the sun activities. Sprinkler Issues

In ground sprinkler systems are especially vulnerable during summer time. Take the time to inspect your sprinkler heads every once in a while to ensure there are no leaks or cracks. A leaking sprinkler is often hard to detect because the sprinkler heads are designed to spray water, but the problem will eventually become evident on your water bill. Not only will these leaks increase your water bill, but they could result in more serious plumbing issues down the road.

Clogged Disposal

Chances are you’re taking advantage of the summer by having cookouts, grilling, block parties, fresh summer fruits, and vegetables. Just remember be careful of how you discard of your waste food. Hard fruits and vegetables can damage your blades on the way down, while cooking oil and grease from the grill will block your disposal. If you fear a back up, run cold water for a few seconds before and after using the garbage disposal to clear any remaining food bits.

Washing Machine Maintenance

Trips to the pool, outdoor activities, and walks outside will increase the work of your washing machine. Since you’re undoubtedly doing more laundry from your outfit changes or pool towel usage, your washing machine will have extra stress put on it. Overuse and overloading of the machine can lead to leaks in the hose. Keep an eye out for hose bulges, leaks or cracks! It’s also important to keep your washer a few inches away from the wall to avoid overheating.

Sewer Line Backup

Summertime rain showers can cause serious plumbing emergencies. Excessive rain can get into sewer pipes through cracks and cause the sewer line to back up.
